After San Antonio, I
must say that Galveston is the place to visit. The main
street is lined with stately old homes, a few blocks
away is The Strand historic district. One block off
of The Strand you can step aboard the Tall Ship Elissa
which is a floating museum. If you are looking for more
modern fare, you can visit Moody Gardens which is constantly
expanding (and currently contains a 3-D IMAX, a ridefilm
and a rainforest among other things) or one of the many
beaches.
Ashton Villa
on Broadway (I-45 South becomes Broadway). The ghost
of one of the Brown daughters, Bettie, supposedly
visits the Gold Room and the second floor landing.
I have personally been there, even if I didn't see
a ghost, it is a beautiful old home. Boarding House
Ave K and 23rd. Several people have died of natural
causes in this house, and now visitors report poltergeist
activity. The current owner appears to be proud that
the house is one of the Island's most haunted.
Bolivar Lighthouse
A young man killed his parents in the lighthouse.
His ghost has been seen through the windows, and he
has been known to chase visitors away.
Fire Station
#6
On Broadway. Captain Jack returns, even though the
building is no longer a fire station. Ghostly smells,
noises and occaisional activity.
Menard House
An apparition of a woman has appeared in the entry
hall, where Clara Menard died from a broken neck (she
fell down the stairs).
Old Skinner
House
1300 block of Sealy. Apparitions and strange noises
have been experienced. An antique cane bearing the
inscription, "J.D. Skinner, Nov. 6, 1895,"
mysteriously showed up in the attic.
Samuel May
Williams Home
3601 Bernardo de Galvez, Galveston. Williams still
walks the third floor balcony, 140 years after his
death.
Stacia-Leigh
A former owner claims to have met the ghost of Benito
Mussolini's mistress on board.
Stewart Beach
An unidentified spectre of a man has been seen running
across the beach after dark. A victim of the storm?
Perhaps.
The Oaks
The spirit of a girl who died after falling down the
stairs has been reported in this house.
Trinity Bay
Jean Lafitte, the notorious pirate, has been accused
of attacking treasure hunters - they've seen an apparition,
resembling Lafitte, choking them in the middle of
the night.
UTMB Galveston
- Ewing Hall ~ article

A demonic face appeared on the side
of one of these buildings long ago, and has survived
every attempt to remove it (even sandblasting). The
building is off limits to the public, but we're told
the face is clearly visible from the harbor.
Before the 1920's, that "land" was in the
water - the face has nothing to do with the Storm.
It was filled- in in the late 20's. The building always
belonged to the State of Texas (through UTMB), and
as such, it should never have had an advertisement
on it - that would be highly questionable at best.
People have died trying to see this - it's not worth
your life - don't risk it! It is State property and
access is restricted - you can be arrested. Lone Star
Spirits went with permission from UTMB, and when UTMB
changed their minds, we left, no questions asked.
There are plenty of other, highly accessible haunted
places in the area.
Virginia Point
Inn
Ghostly footsteps and poltergeist activity have been
attributed to the original owner of the building,
Sarah Hawley.
Walmart
There are rumors that a cemetery may be beneath the
foundation. Full trash bags have been found dangling
from the rafters, neatly "zoned" aisles
will be trashed within moments, and an 18-wheeler
was mysteriously unloaded and stocked when no one
was on duty. How many retailers would like the stocker,
but would prefer to leave the "messy customer"
where it is? Another possible cause for the haunted
may be that the site is supposed to be where an orphanage
run by nuns was destroyed during the storm. The nuns
had tied themselves and the children together to keep
from being separated, but they ended up drowning together.
Witwer-Mott
House
1121 Tremont. "Captain" Mott has "said"
in Ouija sessions that he will continue to haunt the
house until the bodies of murdered girls buried on
the property are found.
